Guideline for Writing Concept Note

Guideline for Writing Concept Note (for Nepali Prospective Students)

As most of the query coming from our dear students are on 'writing concept note', this post we believe could be helpful. The concept note should contain: Background and Statement of Problem (1 Page), research questions and objectives (a paragraph), brief review of literature and methodology (1.5 pages).
1. Background/Statement of Research Problem: You must provide background and should able to raise a genuine,  tenable and interesting research problem/ Issues. The research problem and issues should be well articulated and well supported by evidence such that there is need of further investigation on the topic you select.
2. Write down brief yet clear questions and objectives.
3. Provide brief review of literature along with research gap. Reviewing 3-4 good articles could be sufficient at this stage.
4. Write down the research design,  data source, method of analysis for purposed research paper.
5. Those wishing to participate on Budding economist could list down the agenda only. We don't need details of what is explained above. As it will be an essay, so we just want the direction of your write up. Therefore, listing your prospective on bullets will work.

The selection committee will be more interested on knowing how well the research problem/issues is articulated or raised? how interesting and relevant the research objectives are? how far the objectives are doable? We do not expect a perfect methodology at this stage. We will focus more on the research problem you have raised.

Please write to saesm.nepal@gmail.com for further query.
